BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Jaylon Conwell only ran for 55 yards, but scored Pulaski County’s only two touchdowns to help the Maroons defeat Graves County 14-7 to win the KHSAA Class 5A championship on Friday.
Conwell scored from 12 yards out on the opening drive and added an eight yard TD run with 4:18 left in the first quarter to give Pulaski County (13-2) an early 14-0 lead.
Cody Crider shined for Graves County by leading a 94-yard scoring drive capped by a 24-yard TD run with 53 seconds left in the first quarter to cut the deficit to 14-7. Crider finished with 133 yards on 20 rushing attempts.
The Maroon’s defense held the Eagles to just 153 yards of offense, seven first downs, and 1-for-11 on third down conversions as Pulaski County’s won its first state championship at Western Kentucky University.
Riley Hall completed 19 of 33 passes for 159 yards with receiver Jake Johnson catching nine passes for 103 yards for Pulaski County.
