The two-time Birmingham News Metro Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year, Macoy’s time of 15:03.34 at the Florida State University Invitational marked Alabama’s fastest 5K time of the fall. He captured 10th place at the 2011 Class 6A state meet as a sophomore.
Academic excellence: Macoy has maintained a 3.83 GPA.
Exemplary character: A certified Lifeguard as well as a member of his school’s student government and youth leadership group, he has volunteered extensively as a peer tutor and on behalf of his church’s youth group, Urban Purpose, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.
“It’s clear that Mac is a special runner and athlete,” said Vestavia Hills head coach Brett Huber. “As his coach, I have seen these traits for the past several years, day in and day out. His attention to details each day is one aspect that separates him from his own teammates and his competition. In my 20 years of coaching, he stands out among my best athletes because he really plans his steps and looks ahead, setting goals and imagining how he will accomplish them.”
THE FUTURE: Macoy has verbally committed to Florida.
