Hey, look, a great week of predictions. I was 26-3 last week (89.7 percent) to improve to 354-92 (79.4 percent) for the season. Here’s a look at all of Friday’s area games (kickoff at 7 p.m. unless noted):
>>>Warren Central (9-2) at Ben Davis (9-2), Class 6A regional: When the teams met on Sept. 19 at Warren Central, Ben Davis coach Mike Kirschner felt like his team’s errors in a 28-21 loss were mostly self-inflicted. Can the fourth-ranked Giants clean it up against the defending state champs? Can the Ben Davis defense rise to the occasion against a good-not-great Warren Central offense? We’ll see. There aren’t many games where Warren Central safety/emergency quarterback Mykelti Williams isn’t the best player on the field. His presence and Warren Central coach Jayson West’s 13-game winning streak in the tournament (six at Lawrence Central in 2012, seven with Warren Central) has me leaning to the Warriors. Warren Central 24, Ben Davis 21.
>>>Fort Wayne Carroll (11-0) at Carmel (11-0), Class 6A regional, 7:30 p.m.: We saw this same matchup a year ago in the regional, a game Carmel won going away, 38-7. The Greyhounds have won three of their last four games by a touchdown, including a 14-7 win in the snow last week against Fishers. Carmel’s defense will carry the day. Carmel 27, Carroll 10.
>>>Southport (9-2) at Center Grove (8-3), Class 6A regional: This game got out of hand last year, ending 56-14 in Center Grove’s favor. Southport had some things happening offensively early in that game, though. It’ll need a big day from quarterback Luke Johnston (2,964 passing yards, 26 touchdowns) and a better outing from the defense to have a chance. Center Grove 35, Southport 24.
>>>Decatur Central (8-2) vs. Cathedral (5-5), Class 5A Sectional 13, at Tech: Can Tommy Stevens do it again? The Decatur Central quarterback led his team to last-minute victories over Franklin and Zionsville in the Hawks’ past two games. Four-time defending state champion Cathedral, which beat Decatur Central 54-26 last year in the sectional, is a different beast. Cathedral 38, Decatur Central 27.
>>>Hamilton Heights (9-2) at Guerin Catholic (8-3), Class 3A Sectional 30: Guerin senior receiver Brian Matthews (966 receiving yards, 14 TDs) is having a huge season, as is Hamilton Heights senior wideout Grant Weatherford (659 receiving yards, nine TDs). Neither team has lost to another 3A program this season. Guerin Catholic 21, Hamilton Heights 20.
>>>Tri-West (10-1) at Western Boone (8-3), Class 3A Sectional 29: It will be interesting to see how Tri-West responds after a huge 14-7 win over Brebeuf Jesuit last week. The Bruins defeated Western Boone 20-13 five weeks ago and are allowing just 7.5 points per game. Western Boone hasn’t won a sectional since 2001; it’s been since 2005 for Tri-West. Tri-West 21, Western Boone 16.
>>>West Lafayette Harrison (7-3) at Westfield (6-4), Class 5A Sectional 11: Westfield’s 28-7 win over McCutcheon last week was very impressive. The Shamrocks defeated Harrison 35-14 earlier this season. Westfield 32, Harrison 12.
>>>Floyd Central (6-4) at Whiteland (7-3), Class 5A Sectional 14, 7:30 p.m.: Whiteland is looking for a sectional repeat. Whiteland 35, Floyd Central 14.
>>>Bloomington South (9-1) at Martinsville (7-3), Class 5A Sectional 15: Bloomington South’s closest win this season was 33-23 over Martinsville in Week 2. Bloomington South 30, Martinsville 24.
>>>New Palestine (11-0) at Beech Grove (7-4), Class 4A Sectional 21: Beech Grove has turned it up a notch in the tournament. Will it be enough to hang with New Pal, which has not been tested once this season. New Palestine 42, Beech Grove 24.
>>>Roncalli (6-5) at Plainfield (4-7), Class 4A Sectional 22: Roncalli’s 31-6 win over Bishop Chatard last week may have been the surprise of the tournament. Roncalli defeated Plainfield 27-3 in September. Roncalli 28, Plainfield 13.
>>>Oak Hill (9-2) at Lapel (5-6), Class 2A Sectional 36: Lapel’s tough schedule has helped it in the tournament. Lapel 28, Oak Hill 26.
>>>Cardinal Ritter (7-4) at Monrovia (9-2), Class 2A Sectional 37: Ritter won 41-40 in overtime over Monrovia in the first game of the season. Monrovia beat Ritter in the regional in 2009 on its way to the state championship game. Monrovia 38, Cardinal Ritter 30.
>>>Triton Central (10-1) at Milan (7-4), Class 2A Sectional 39: Triton Central could be headed to a showdown with unbeaten Evansville Mater Dei next week. Triton Central 41, Milan 20.
>>>Sheridan (7-4) at Tri-Central (9-1), Class A Sectional 44: Sheridan has dominated the series through the years but not recently. Tri-Central 34, Sheridan 28.
>>>Eastern Hancock (9-2) at Northeastern (11-0), Class A Sectional 45: Eastern Hancock has steadily improved since a 34-6 loss to Northeastern in August. Eastern Hancock 31, Northeastern 30.
>>>Lutheran (8-3) vs. Howe (6-5), at Park Tudor, Sectional 46: This will be one of the night’s most interesting games. Howe is going for its first sectional title. Howe 26, Lutheran 24.
