As a 6-5 left-hander with a 92-mph fastball, there’s little question that Foster Griffin’s future is on the mound. In the meantime, he’s also terrorizing opponents with his bat. Griffin is hitting .407 with 16 RBI in 59 at-bats. On the mound, he’s 5-1 with a 1.15 ERA with 65 strikeouts in 36.2 innings pitched and has led The First Academy to a 20-2 start. He comes from an athletic family as his father, Fred, is the director of the Grand Cypress Academy of Golf in Orlando. Until the regular-season American Family Insurance ALL-USA baseball team comes out in June, we’re looking at players who have a chance to be on that team.

Baseball future: The senior has signed with Mississippi and is considered a potential late first-round or early second-round draft choice.

Others’ take: “We’re just real fortunate to have him on our team and have his leadership,” said TFA coach Scott Grove at the NHSI. “We know with him, we have a good shot of the other team not scoring a lot of runs off us.”
Griffin’s take: “I like to throw a changeup off my fastball because I’ve learned from hitting that hitting a good changeup is really hard and it makes the fastball look a lot faster. I’ve really worked a lot in the past year on my changeup, to make that a good secondary pitch.”
