First-team offense

E: Jacob Brooklier

School: Center Line.

Vitals: Senior, 6-feet-3, 215 pounds.

Accomplishments: For his career, caught 113 passes for 1,625 yards and 17 TDs. Was an integral part of the second-highest-scoring team in school history. Played three years on varsity.

OL: Kimon Patrick

School: Clinton Township Clintondale.

Vitals: Senior, 6-0, 205.

Accomplishments: He played guard and tackle on offense, and the team made sure they ran the ball behind him. “We ran behind him 85% of the time,” coach Dave Schindler said. “He was the heart of the line.”

OL: Phil Dakin

School: Grosse Pointe South.

Vitals: Senior, 6-2, 270.

Accomplishments: A two-way star, Dakin was a center on offense and made all the adjustments across the line of scrimmage as a two-year starter. Team captain with a 4.0-plus grade-point average and 35 on his ACT. Tough, with great feet.

OL: Nick Rowan

School: Fraser.

Vitals: Senior, 6-2, 250.

Accomplishments: Helped team rush for more than 2,000 yards. Never missed a practice in three years. “He’s an excellent football player, student and young man,” coach Pat Threet said.

OL: Trevor Curle

School: Utica Eisenhower.

Vitals: Senior, 6-3, 260.

Accomplishments: Team rushed for 1,840 yards, and coach Chris Smith made sure the running plays went behind him. “He was smart and tough in the trenches,” Smith said. Has a 3.8 grade-point average.

OL: Joe Hilliard

School: Warren Woods Tower.

Vitals: Senior, 6-0, 200.

Accomplishments: Had 2.27 pancake blocks per game and was the center of the blocking in the veer offense. Also played on special teams and was a “Special Teams Warrior.” Also played defensive tackle and linebacker. As a strong-side guard, made the line adjustments and handled the blitz packages. Graded out in blocking at 83%.

E: Stefan Clairborne

School: Clinton Township Chippewa Valley (captain).

Vitals: Junior, 6-2, 180.

Accomplishments: A great special-teams player who blocked five kicks during the season and recovered one in the end zone against Macomb Dakota for a touchdown in the playoffs. On offense, the three-year starter caught 25 passes for 522 yards and 10 touchdowns. Had 14 kickoff returns for a 24.4-yard average. Led the team in tackles with 83.

QB: Paul Hurley

School: Romeo.

Vitals: Junior, 6-2, 190.

Accomplishments: Had a great year as a starter and team captain, completing 137 of 208 passes for 1,779 yards and 16 TDs. Had 389 yards rushing and punted six times for a 45-yard average. Coaches hailed him as a great leader, accurate passer and hard worker.

RB: Martell Pettaway

School: St. Clair Shores South Lake.

Vitals: Junior, 5-8, 200.

Accomplishments: The tough, explosive runner gained 1,337 yards on 197 carries for a 6.8-yard average. Accounted for 13 TDs and caught eight passes for 26 yards. Added 31 tackles and an interception.

RB: Allen Stritzinger

School: Warren De La Salle.

Vitals: Sophomore, 6-0, 178.

Accomplishments: An unbelievable athlete who has been on the varsity since he was a freshman. Rushed for 1,090 yards on 208 carries and also played plenty in the defensive backfield. Led the team with 19 touchdowns. Averaged 26.8 yards on 10 kickoff returns.

RB: Kumehnnu Gwilly

School: Utica.

Vitals: Junior, 6-2, 195.

Accomplishments: This speedster is a star in the making. Rushed for 1,944 yards on 294 carries for 15 touchdowns. Threw for 112 yards and a touchdown. Being recruited by Big Ten and Mid-American Conference schools. “Best player I’ve coached since being in the PSL,” said coach Tony Smith.

K: Anthony Secchi

School: Warren Cousino.

Vitals: Sophomore, 5-8, 160.

Accomplishments: The team’s kicking game is in good hands after Secchi made 24 of 26 extra points and was 8-for-13 on field goal attempts with a longest of 42 yards. Had 15 kickoffs for touchbacks. Has kicked 60-yard FGs in practice and just missed a 54-yarder against Marine City. Averaged 40 yards per punt in 21 attempts with a longest of 65 yards.

First-team Defense

DL: Collin Koscielniak

School: Utica Eisenhower.

Vitals: Senior, 6-feet-1, 215 pounds.

Accomplishments: Three-year starter with a 3.5 grade-point average. Posted 94 tackles, third on the team and a record for Eisenhower linemen in a season. Also registered three sacks and forced a fumble. “Teams had to tackle him to block him,” coach Chris Smith said.

DL: Mike Danna

School: Warren De La Salle.

Vitals: Senior, 6-3, 234.

Accomplishments: Missed five games because of a broken leg, but that didn’t stop him from helping spring the upset of Birmingham Brother Rice in the regional final. “Best lineman in my 34 years of coaching,” coach Paul Verska said. Committed to CMU.

DL: Aubrey Gulley

School: Warren Fitzgerald.

Vitals: Senior, 5-9, 180.

Accomplishments: Speed and work ethic made him hard to stop on either side of the ball. Had 72 tackles, seven sacks, three fumble recoveries and a safety. Consistently chased down the ball sideline-to-sideline. Size was no problem when rushing the quarterback.

DL: Antonio Balabani

School: Macomb Dakota (captain).

Vitals: Senior, 6-2, 230.

Accomplishments: Had 39 tackles, 91/2 sacks, one interception and two fumble recoveries. “Tony is one of the hardest-working kids I’ve ever coached,” Mike Giannone said. “He was the only preseason captain we named in our program.” Also an all-state wrestler. Commited to Western Michigan.

LB: Nate Conner

School: Romeo.

Vitals: Senior, 5-10, 200.

Accomplishments: A team captain, he wreaked havoc on opposing offenses with 67 solo tackles, 74 assists and three sacks. Forced three fumbles and recovered one. A three-year varsity starter. “Nate has been the leader of our defense for the past two years,” co-coach Curt Rienas said. “He is such a student of the game. He was a human computer with attitude.”

LB: Kyran Daniels

School: Warren Mott.

Vitals: Senior, 5-11, 175.

Accomplishments: A big hitter despite his size, Daniels had 92 tackles, three interceptions, two sacks and a fumble recovery. “Tremendous instincts and nose for the ball,” coach Tom Milanov said. “Can play both linebacker and safety. He was also a quality running back on offense.”

LB: Marcus Bowers

School: Fraser.

Vitals: Senior, 5-11, 215.

Accomplishments: A four-year starter, Bowers has a 3.8 grade-point average and will attend Air Force. Registered 951/2 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, five sacks and one interception. “He could play anywhere on the field and make an impact,” coach Pat Threet said. “He is as good of a player as I’ve coached.”

LB: Eric Rogers

School: Warren De La Salle.

Vitals: Junior, 6-1, 228.

Accomplishments: Team’s top tackler as a sophomore and junior. Had 101 tackles this year, 121/2 for loss, two sacks, two interceptions, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. Had a season-high 15 tackles against Orchard Lake St. Mary’s.

DB: Sean Bunting

School: Clinton Township Chippewa Valley.

Vitals: Senior, 6-1, 170.

Accomplishments: Made a good showing in a loss to Cass Tech in the regional final. Had 30 tackles, four interceptions and a fumble recovery along with three pass breakups. On offense, had 38 receptions for 632 yards and 10 touchdowns. Returned 12 kickoffs for a 26.2-yard average.

DB: Tyler Redding

School: Warren Mott.

Vitals: Junior, 6-1, 165.

Accomplishments: He had 28 tackles, seven interceptions and seven pass breakups. Had 14 interceptions over the past two years. As a receiver, he caught 23 passes for 450 yards and six TDs. “He’s a go-to player on both sides of the ball,” coach Tom Milanov said.

DB: Dimitri Abro

School: Macomb Dakota.

Vitals: Senior, 5-10, 175.

Accomplishments: A big-play threat in the defensive backfield, he was in on 77 tackles, had 21/2 sacks, had four interceptions (returning three for touchdowns), deflected two passes, had two fumble recoveries and forced a fumble. “He always seemed to be around the ball,” coach Mike Giannone said.

Coach: Brad Nettles

School: Warren Cousino.

Accomplishments: In his first season, went 5-0 in the MAC Blue and made the playoffs. “I’m very proud of our senior leadership and our captains,” he said. “We had to learn how to win and get to the point where we expect to win”
