Allen, Texas, moved up from No. 4 to No. 3 in the Super 25 football rankings after winning its third consecutive state title in impressive fashion Saturday. The Eagles, led by quarterback Kyler Murray’s five touchdown passes, defeated then-No. 41 Cypress Ranch (Cypress) 47-16 for the 6A-I championship. The Eagles (16-0) have won 43 consecutive games.
The Eagles’ ascendance meant that Booker T. Washington (Miami) moved down from No. 3 to No. 4, but the Tornadoes have another game this Saturday in the Burger King State Champions Bowl Series, where they play No. 8 Bingham (South Jordan, Utah) at Boca Raton.
Another state champion that made a jump was Folsom, Calif., which moved from No. 11 to No. 9 as quarterback Jake Browning threw six touchdown passes Friday in a 68-7 defeat of then-No. 25 Oceanside in a state Division I bowl. Browning now holds the national record for most career touchdown passes with 229 and has 91 touchdown passes this season, tying him for the national record with Corey Robinson of Lone Oak (Paducah, Ky.), who threw 91 touchdown passes in 2007.
Cedar Hill also moved up a spot from No. 21 to No. 20 with its win in the Texas 6A-II championship. The Longhorns defeated then-No. 34 Katy 23-20 Saturday as wide receiver DaMarkus Lodge had a 61-yard touchdown catch.
