Keuka College senior guard Danielle Gravel, a Sidney resident, became the 12th player in the women’s basketball program’s history to eclipse 1,000 career points.
Gravel scored her 1,000 collegiate point in a 73-56 win against SUNY Cobleskill on Wednesday, Jan. 22. Gravel, who came into this week making 39 percent of her 3-pointers, surpassed 1,000 points on a 3-pointer the second half.
She earned Keuka College’s Female Athlete of the Week after she scored 13 points on 5 of 10 shooting against SUNY Cobleskill as well as 11 points and five assists in 72-43 win against Morrisville State on Saturday.
Gravel, a two-time All-North Eastern Athletic Conference first-team selection, averaged 12.7 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game while shooting 46 percent from the floor through 13 games.
She moved into 10th place on the Keuka all-time women’s basketball scoring list.
Patterson earns awards
Vestal High graduate Melanie Patterson earned Liberty League Rookie of the Week honors for women’s basketball on Jan. 20. It marked her second Rookie of the Week recognition in a three-week span.
A freshman guard at William Smith College, Patterson has averaged 7.4 points and 3.0 rebounds per game through her first 16 collegiate games. She has shots 46 percent from the floor and recorded the team’s third-highest assist total (28).
