Anderson County girls defeat Simon Kenton, repeat in Eighth Region

Eriel McKee poured in 32 points, collected 11 rebounds and had five steals to lead Anderson County to the girls’ Eighth Region Tournament title, in a 49-38 win over Simon Kenton in Sunday’s championship game at Grant County.

The Bearcats (26-4) repeated as Eighth Region champions.

Abby Owings paced the Pioneers (29-3) with 14 points.

: Michaela Ware hit a driving layup as time expired in overtime, lifting Newport Catholic past Notre Dame 48-46 in the title game at Northern Kentucky University, and NewCath’s first Sweet 16 berth since 2011.* Ninth at Bank of Kentucky Center

: Erin Boley had 25 points and eight rebounds, and Elizabethtown beat LaRue County 73-56 in the championship game. The Lady Panthers (29-4) move on to their first Sweet 16 appearance since 2009.* Fifth at Nelson County

: Essence Gray scored 22 points to lead Danville (24-7) past Mercer County 68-58 in the final, and to its first-ever girls’ Sweet 16 appearance.* 12th at Lincoln County

C.J. McPhearson also added 21 points for Danville.

Eighth-grader Seygan Robins scored 24 points for Mercer County (28-6).

: Morgan Turner had 21 points, 12 rebounds and eight blocked shots, leading Meade County (16-15) to a 66-53 win over Owensboro Catholic (27-7) to the Third title.* Third at Owensboro Sportscenter

Raley Johnson added 24 points for Meade County, which hadn’t been to the Sweet 16 since qualifying as the Fifth Region champion in 1994.

: Lexxus Graham scored 16 points as Clark County (25-7) beat defending champion Montgomery County 56-46 in the title game.* 10th at Mason County

The Cardinals have won all four games they played this season with Montgomery County.

Erica Rogers led the Indians (15-15) with 14 points.

: Kiara Pankins scored a game-high 25 points as Lafayette (27-3) beat Paul Dunbar 53-40 to win the 11th Region.* 11th at Frankfort Convention Center

Brooke Todd scored 13 points for the Bulldogs (25-8).

: Kayla Wilson scored 14 points as host Corbin (29-7) captured the 13th title with a 59-40 win over Harlan.* 13th at Corbin

Emma Bianchi had 12 points for Harlan (20-13).
