Antonio Williams, a four-star running back in the Class of 2016 from North Stanly High in North Carolina, committed to the University of Wisconsin in a ceremony in his school library.
Williams visited Wisconsin last weekend and that help firm up his decision. Auburn, Duke, North Carolina and Notre Dame also were said to be in the running for Williams, who posted 29 touchdowns this season.
Williams, from North London, N.C., told Rivals.com that he committed after Saturday’s game when he was talking with Badgers star running back Melvin Gordon and head coach Gary Andersen walked by.
“Ever since then I’ve been trying to connect with the running backs and trying to build a relationship with all the guys on the team,” he told Rivals’ site NC Preps. “I’ve been talking to more and more coaches on the staff and it’s just the perfect fit for me.”
A day before his commitment was publicly announced, Williams was reminded by a Twitter follower that Madison is known as a great college town.
He also flipped his Twitter avatar to a picture of himself with Gordon and Badgers running back Corey Clement.
