LITTLETON – After trailing nearly the entire game, Arapahoe stormed back in the final quarter to beat Smoky Hill 63-59 in the Sweet 16 Wednesday night.
With just over six minutes remaining in the fourth quarter and the game tied, Brendan Till created just enough separation to knock down a three from the top of the key, giving the Warriors a 43-40 advantage and their first lead of the night.
As the momentum shifted, the Warriors built a seven point lead and looked as if they were in control, but Smoky Hill stormed back and with just 7.9 seconds remaining Connor Mooney knocked down a deep three-pointer, cutting the Arapahoe lead to 60-59.
Smoky Hill had a chance to tie the game in the final seconds after Arapahoe extended their lead to 62-59 at the free throw line, but Nick Farmen forced a turnover that would help the Warriors secure the win.
Corbin Atwell and Ethan Brunhoefer were the leading scorers for the Warriors, both contributing 24 points.
With the win, Arapahoe improves to 20-5 on the season and will advance to the Great Eight at the Denver Coliseum where they will play Fossil Ridge Friday night.
