Arcadia advances to semifinals


The top-seeded Arcadia Hornets continued to dominate their playoff opposition, cruising into next week’s Class 1A semifinals after crushing the eighth-seeded Hamilton Christian Warriors 70-35 in quarterfinal action Friday night in Arcadia.

Arcadia advances to face fourth-seeded Metairie Park Country Day, 47-42 winners over fifth-seeded Christian Life, in the semifinal round Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Lake Charles’ Burton Coliseum.

Arcadia improves to 27-3 on the season and have collected two playoff wins of 41 points (78-37 over St. Martin’s Episcopal in the first round and 59-18 over Ascension Episcopal in the regional round) prior to this 35-point triumph. The Hornets have outscored their opposition 207-90 in the postseason thus far.

Hamilton Christian closes its season at 24-8 with the defeat.


Natchitoches Central 59, East Ascension 53: At East Ascension, the second-seeded Chiefs advanced to the state semifinals with a hard-fought road win over the tenth-seeded Spartans. Natchitoches Central (29-5) travels to Lake Charles to face 19th-seeded Thibodaux, 56-54 upset victors over sixth-seeded Dutchtown, in the semis on Tuesday at 7:45 p.m. at Burton Coliseum. East Ascension wraps its season at 24-10.


East Jefferson 70, Huntington 58: At East Jefferson, the second-seeded Warriors eliminated the seventh-seeded Raiders with the quarterfinal victory. East Jefferson (29-3) advances to face 11th-seeded Northside, 67-55 upset winners over third-seeded Peabody, in the semifinals Thursday at 8 p.m. Huntington lost for only the third time all season to close at 28-3.


Donaldsonville 74, North Webster 69: At Donaldsonville, the 17th-seeded Knights’ season came to a close two days after their huge upset of top-seeded John Curtis on Wednesday. Eighth-seeded Donaldsonville (23-9) advances to face fourth-seeded Richwood, 79-55 winners over Port Allen, in the semifinals on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. North Webster finishes the season with a record of 25-10.


Lakeview 72, Many 63: At Lakeview, the second-seeded Gators cruised into the semifinals with the victory over the tenth-seeded Tigers. Lakeview (27-4) advances to face 14th-seeded St. James, 63-60 upset winners over sixth-seeded Episcopal, in the semis at 2:45 p.m. Thursday. Many closes its season at 20-8.

North Caddo at St. Thomas Aquinas: The 28th-seeded Rebels (11-18) continue their Cinderella season today at 7 p.m. when they travel to Hammond to face the 13th-seeded Falcons (17-13). The winner of will face top-seeded Riverside Academy, 103-50 winners over Sterlington.


Florien 64, Choudrant 54: At Choudrant, the top-seeded Blackcats continued their magical season with the road victory, winning their 41st game to advance to the semifinals. Florien (41-3) will face the winner of the Fairview/Westin quarterfinal at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. Choudrant finishes the season at 20-15.

Midland 66, Zwolle 47: At Midland, the second-seeded Rebels brought the season of the seventh-seeded Hawks to a close with the win. Midland (26-3) advances to the semifinals in Lake Charles Wednesday at 6:15 p.m. against third-seeded Anacoco, who beat Simsboro 78-62. Zwolle ends its season at 27-11.
