CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Ardrey Kell Knights reigned victorious in Saturday’s futbol jamboree at Mallard Creek High School. The Knights capped off a perfect day with a nearly flawless 4-1 victory over the Garinger Wildcats. The Knights, led by head coach Kim Montgomery, couldn’t be happier to pull off such a dominating victory against the Wildcats. Ardrey Kell will begin their season August 18 at rival Myers Park. The Knights have never defeated the Mustangs, so any momentum they can get will almost have to favor Ardrey Kell.

Host school Mallard Creek fared quite well in Saturday’s jamboree, defeating Community School of Davidson and capturing third place overall. After being shutout at the hands of Garinger in the opening round, the Mavericks went on a tear, topping Berry Academy 4-0, then shutting out Community School of Davidson 2-0. Mallard Creek kicks off their regular season at Butler High School on August 20.

Led by all-state forward Brandon Flores, the Jesse C. Carson Cougars earned some attention at the jamboree. The Cougars opened the jamboree with a 3-2 victory of Community School of Davidson. Following a match against Cox Mill, Carson dismantled Berry Academy 8-0. Coach Justin Buckwalter’s Cougars begin their regular season August 19 on the road at Marvin Ridge High School.

The Rocky River Ravens struggled at the jamboree Saturday, being shut out three times. The Ravens were unable to put the ball in the net in their matches against Ardrey Kell, Community School of Davidson, and Cox Mill. The Cox Mill Chargers earned a couple of victories Saturday, defeating Berry Academy and Rocky River. The Chargers begin their season August 20 at Hopewell High School. Rocky River’s regular season starts Monday, August 18 at home versus Concord High School.

Jamboree runners-up Garinger earned two shutout victories Saturday. First, the Wildcats disposed of host Mallard Creek 2-0, then defeated Cox Mill 3-0. All-state forward Tresor Mbuyu will look to lead the Wildcats on a playoff run this season. The Wildcats open their season at home against Hopewell on August 18.

Berry Academy struggled in Saturday’s jamboree, dropping their opening match against Cox Mill. The Cardinal were then defeated by Mallard Creek in the opening round of the consolation bracket. The Cardinal closed out their Saturday with a loss at the hands of Jesse C. Carson. Berry opens their season August 18 at home against Vance High School.
