GIRLS BASKETBALL: Eaton wins sectional opener

TECUMSEH, Ohio – Autumn Whirley scored 24 points — all on 3-pointers — as Eaton opened play in the OHSAA Division II Tecumseh sectional with a 66-31 win over Benjamin Logan.

Elizabeth Tolliver added eight points, while Libby Springmier and Hannah Paulus each added seven.

“I just thought it was a great start for us,” Eaton coach Gary Peffly said. “We needed this to kick-start our tournament.”

Eaton (19-4) plays the winner of tonight’s game Tuesday at Tecumseh.

“It was just our first quarter was one of the more well-balanced quarters,” Peffly said. “We outscored them 23-3. Defensively, we were just swarming them. I was really pleased. … I thought our top 10 players played extremely well, played well together.”

GYMNASTICS: Wampler 1st for RHS

Chasity Wampler placed first on every event and Alexis Sparks was fourth on vault Wednesday as Richmond fell 100.675-92.85 to Connersville.

GYMNASTICS: Tigers take 2nd

NEW PALESTINE, Ind. – Hagerstown was second in a three-team meet on Wednesday as Maddie Davis and Macie Bush tied for first on floor for the Tigers.

New Palestine tallied 97.25 points to win, followed by 96.7 for Hagerstown and 42.4 for Muncie Burris

Davis was also second on beam, bars and all-around. Hagerstown is at the Connersville Invitational on Saturday.

Zoee Woolridge scored 23 points as Test defeated Knightstown 33-15 in seventh-grade girls basketball action Wednesday.

Test plays Saturday at the Dennis Hardwood tournament.


Seton Catholic fell 24-23 on Wednesday to Blue River in junior high girls basketball.

Anna Creech and Brooke Gray each scored eight points for the Cardinals.
