Today, Caddo and Bossier parishes will host the opening rounds of all six LHSAA state championship golf tournaments.

On the boys’ side, local squads have an opportunity to sweep the four events.

Byrd leads the way in Division I as freshman sensation Philip Barbaree Jr. fired a 66 at regionals. The event begins Monday afternoon at East Ridge Country Club. Airline and West Monroe are also included in the team competition.

In Division II, scheduled for newly revamped Huntington on Monday afternoon, Benton will look for a third straight state title. North DeSoto is in the hunt for the crown, while Loyola’s Sam deBerardinis will compete as an individual.

Calvary, a four-time defending state champion, eyes another title in Division III, a tournament that will begin Monday morning at East Ridge. LSU commits Nathan Jeansonne and Sam Burns lead the way for the Cavaliers.

University High, led by Trey Winstead, son of LSU golf coach Chuck Winstead, is expected to give Calvary plenty of competition.

The Division IV event will take place at Huntington, as Cedar Creek looks for six straight championships.

Both girls events will take place at Palmetto Country Club in Benton.

Byrd’s Meg Brown will compete as an individual in Division I beginning Monday afternoon.
