THE WINNER: Brandon Workman
THE BASICS

Event: Jumps and sprints
Height: 5-foot-10
Weight: 170 pounds
Athletic achievement: He won two individual state championships this spring, leading the Mountaineers to a second-place finish as a team at the Class 7A state meet. Workman captured the long jump, soaring 23 feet, five inches and the triple jump with a leap of 48-7, which ranked as the nation’s No. 26 performance among prep competitors in 2014 at the time of his selection. A two-time First Team All-State honoree, he also won gold in the triple jump (45-1) at the Meet of Champions and captured first in the long jump at the Kansas Relays with a leap of 23-6.75.
Academic excellence: Workman has maintained a 4.0 GPA.
Exemplary character: A devoted parishioner in his church community, he has volunteered locally as part of a literacy-outreach program and as a youth football coach.

“Brandon Workman has all the qualities that you would want in an athlete,” said Rogers head coach Jim Yurwitz. “He’s smart, talented and a leader. His greatest strength is that he is so coachable. If you tell him to change something on his next jump, he has the ability to make that change. Not all athletes have that ability.”
THE FUTURE: Workman has signed with Alabama.
