THE WINNER: Ty Storey
School: Charleston (Ark.)
Weight: 220 pounds
Athletic achievement: He has led the Tigers to a 12-0 record and a berth in the Class 3A state semifinals against Booneville, scheduled for Dec. 5. The state’s returning Gatorade Football Player of the Year, Storey passed for 3,573 yards and 49 touchdowns against just four interceptions through 12 games, completing 253 of 373 passes (68 percent). A member of the AP Arkansas Super Team, he has also rushed for 576 yards and 18 touchdowns.
Academic excellence: Storey has maintained a 3.71 GPA.
Exemplary character: A devoted member of his church community, he has volunteered locally as a teacher’s assistant in an elementary school classroom.
“Storey is the best high school quarterback I’ve ever seen,” said Bryan Hutson, head coach at Paris. “He makes throws that you just don’t see quarterbacks make in high school, and he puts the ball on the money every time. He’s phenomenal.”
THE FUTURE: Taking advantage of new NCAA early signing rules, Storey inked a financial-aid agreement that paves the way for him to enroll at Arkansas. He is expected to graduate from high school this month and begin classes in the spring semester.
