The Arlington High School boys soccer team clinched its 28th league title in program history Tuesday, as a 3-0 win over visiting Mahopac in Freedom Plains secured the Admirals the Section 1 Conference 1 League A crown.
“The boys are pretty excited. They knew it was something we could do (Tuesday),” said coach Craig Sanborn, whose team improved to 12-1-1, including a 9-1 league mark. “They were up and ready to go. We played really well and moved the ball well.”
Dillon Ashong’s goal 34 minutes into the action gave the Admirals the lead.
“Throughout the match, we created the opportunities. Early on, we missed a few, which really could’ve taken care of things,” Sanborn said. “We found Dillon at the top of the box, and he hit a great shot.”
Vinny Colantuono then added two goals after the break – in a span of less than two minutes.
“Vinny is a kid who finds the back of the net,” Sanborn said. “(His goals) helped create the separation.”
Arlington travels to Purchase on Thursday to oppose the hosts from Keio Academy.
