Asheville Post 70 held on for a 5-4 victory Friday night at Hickory Post 48 to advance to the third round of the American Legion baseball playoffs.
Post 70 took the best-of-five series, 3-1. And in doing so, Asheville (18-7) tied its single-season record for wins.
Trevor Stockhausen (Reynolds) was 2-for-3 with a run scored, Ryan Rickey (North Buncombe) went 1-3 with two runs scored, Ryan Goode (Roberson) was 2-4 with two RBIs and a run scored, and Nolan Lisenbee (North Buncombe) went 2-3 with a run scored.
Post 70 used four different pitchers – Goode made a 3.2 inning start and left with a 4-2 lead. He was followed by Casey Williams (Reynolds), Ryan Grainger (Reynolds) and Carson Jones (North Buncombe).
Post 70 will open its next series with the Gaston Braves on Sunday (at Erwin at 5 p.m.).
Game 2 (Monday) and Game 3 (Tuesday) will be held at Belmont South Point before Asheville hosts Game 4 on Wednesday at Reynolds).
