It was a night of first wins for a couple of area volleyball coaches.
The Astronaut High volleyball team looked strong in its home opener, defeating Bayside 25-23, 25-10, 25-10.
It gave Diego Perez his first win as the War Eagles head coach. Perez was previously on Cocoa Beach’s staff.
“We can definitely play better than that,” Astronaut senior Victoria Watts said. “But we came through at the end. We came together as a team, and it showed.”
Despite being on the job for just five days, Jason Arnold picked up his first win as a volleyball coach Tuesday night.
The head baseball coach at Satellite took over after the former coach left — and Arnold helped lead the Scorpions to a win against Melbourne in four sets.
Arnold was a standout baseball player with Melbourne and was drafted by the New York Yankees.
In other volleyball news, Titusville’s gym floor is undergoing serious repairs, which caused Tuesday’s match between the Terriers and Eau Gallie to be moved to Melbourne.
Titusville defeated Eau Gallie in four sets.
Officials at Titusville say their court will be ready by the end of the week.
