Four area girls’ basketball teams finished the season ranked among the top squads in the state.
And that’s just the tip of the iceberg when describing the kind of talent that took the area’s hardwood during the 2013-14 campaign.
And while there were great individual efforts throughout the local scene, no team had as much success as Athens. The Indians finished the year ranked fifth in the state, posted 22 wins and reached the Breslin Center for the Class D state semifinals.
And for leading his team to its third-straight trip to the state semifinals, Athens’ Calvin Quist has been named Coach of the Year for the 2013-14 Enquirer All-Area Girls’ Basketball Team.
Quist headlines the 2013-14 Enquirer All-Area Girls’ Basketball Team, as selected by area coaches and the Enquirer sports staff. He is joined on the squad by a pair of Indians in Allison Fuller and Audrey Oswalt.
Gull Lake won 20 games and finished the season ranked No. 7 in Class A, led by All-Area selections Mackenzie Latt and Kelsey Bauer.
Marshall, also ranked much of the season in Class B, earned multiple spots on the All-Area team after Tierra Orban and Logan Kiessling helped the Redhawks come out on top in 16 games.
Representing their schools and rounding out the All-Area team are Bellevue’s Jenelle Kuiper; Bronson’s Skyler Sobeski; Coldwater’s Kenzie Galloway; Delton Kellogg’s Kristen Mohn; Homer’s Bailey Manis; and Olivet’s Hayley Walkowski.
