Won two matches to help Milford win the DIAA Division II Dual Meet state championship last Tuesday at Smyrna. He then swept three matches on his home mat to win the 138-pound title at the Henlopen Conference Wrestling Championships on Friday and Saturday.THE WEEK:

“It’s really been a big week,” Badger said. “Two titles in a row for me, this is what I’ve been working for for four years. I finally got it done. All I’ve got to do is win one more [at the state meet].”THE WINS:

“John’s a kid who has earned it,” Milford coach Dan Rigby said. “He made the jump to go down to 138, and he’s everything that epitomizes Milford wrestling. He’s a hard worker, great student, good leader. I couldn’t be more proud of a kid.”THE COACH SAYS:

Badger defeated Tyreq Nelson of Woodbridge 1-0 in the conference championship match, working hard to keep his top-seeded opponent off the board throughout the third period. “You’re pressured to win at that point,” Badger said. “You’re on top, you’re in control and you have the lead. On top of that, I’m one of the better top guys in the state, so I pride myself on being really good on top. I just had to hold him down and hold my own.”THE FINAL:

“We’ve got a special bond,” Rigby said. “He came on as a freshman my first year here, and he’s one of the only guys that stuck with me the whole time. It was nice to win a team state title with him, and now this is his chance to get his [individual] gratification.”THE FOUR YEARS:

“His first year to now is like night and day,” Rigby said. “He was really immature, had an attitude, wouldn’t listen. Now, he’s a sponge. He just takes in everything you say.”THE TRANSFORMATION:
