Athletes of the Week

By

Lane Duncan

Licking junior, Basketball

Duncan had a huge week as the Wildcats picked up a pair of wins.

In a 76-54 win over Houston on Jan. 28, Duncan poured in 31 points as Licking improved to 11-6. He topped that three days later against Cuba, scoring 45 points and making a 65-foot shot to beat the buzzer at the end of the first period. Licking beat Cuba, 82-69.

For the week, Duncan shot 75 percent from the field.

Ryan West

Buffalo junior, Basketball

West carried Buffalo to its first win of the season Feb. 1, scoring 38 points to lead the Bison to a 52-47 win over Laquey in the seventh-place game of the Conway Tournament.

West averaged 23 points and six rebounds per game in the tournament. His point total against Laquey was more than the Bison had scored as a team in eight games this season and helped Buffalo crack the 50-point barrier for the first time this season.

Juwan Morgan

Waynesville junior

Basketball

Featured in this section a couple of weeks ago, Morgan continues to show why he has become an NCAA Division I recruit. The 6-foot-8 junior led Waynesville to the Rogersville Tournament championship, scoring a game-high 21 points in an overtime victory against Republic.

Morgan had plenty of help, too, throughout the tournament as the Tigers also had strong performances from Kellieon Williams and Michael Thompson.
