From the two-mile point on, Eidenschink had the lead and went on to claim the Division 2 state championship in a time of 15 minutes, 42 seconds Saturday during the WIAA state cross country meet at the Ridges Golf Course. Eidenschink became the first state champion for the Nekoosa/Port Edwards program. He will run for the University of Wisconsin in the fall.
Not far behind his teammate, Schraeder was the Division 2 bronze medalist with a time of 15:56, his fastest time of the season during the state meet last week. It was the first time during coach Les Smith’s tenure that the N/PE boys had two state medalists. Two weeks earlier Schroeder was the South Central Conference champ.
A surprise winner in the 100 breaststroke in 1:07.45, Hartman helped lead the Raiders to a fifth-place finish in the Wisconsin Valley Conference tournament and in the overall standings. She was also second in the 50 freestyle (25:42) and was part of the second-place 200 individual medley relay team.
After finishing behind South Central Conference rival Shannon Sorbo in the conference meet and the sectional race, Hodkiewicz beat her conference foe at the state meet. Hodkiewicz placed 74th in the Division 2 competition in 20:46 in the 5K race. Last year she finished 100th at state.
