Doss 80, Christ Presbyterian 71: After being led by big scoring outbursts from Dujuanta Weaver in their first three KOB games, the No. 10 Dragons (6-1) got balanced scoring to beat the Lions (9-3) in the third-place contest.
Reserve Nick Anderson scored 16 points and led six Dragons in double figures. Weaver finished with 12 points, three assists and three steals.
“We convinced Weaver that if he’d sacrifice a little bit of himself that everybody would not focus on him so much and that in crunch time he’d be able to do what he does,” Doss coach Tony Williams said. “He believed in the concept, and that’s the reason we won.”
Dajon McCarley (13 points, seven rebounds), Terrell Gray (12 points, 11 rebounds), Jaylon Hall (10 points) and Ramon Collins (10 points) also had big games for Doss, which shot 57.1 percent (28 of 49). The Dragons matched their best-ever KOB finish, also placing third in 1983 and 1993.
Braxton Blackwell had 27 points, nine rebounds, four assists, two blocks and two steals to lead the Lions. Eighth-grader Tyger Campbell added 17 points and six assists but went out in the fourth quarter with an ankle injury.
