East Henderson senior Tanis Baldwin (cross country) and Erwin senior Lauren Davis (volleyball) are the first Citizen-Times/Western North Carolina Fall Sports Athletes of the Week.
Baldwin became the first-ever runner from the area to repeat as a boys championship division winner at Saturday’s WNC Cross Country Carnival in Hendersonville. His time of 15 minutes, 49.60 seconds was nearly six seconds faster than runner-up Nick Linder from Charlotte Providence Day.
Davis is a setter/outside hitter for the undefeated Warriors (3-0). She had eight kills and 17 assists in the team’s latest win – last Thursday’s 3-0 sweep (25-17, 25-10, 25-4) of Tuscola.
The Warriors open Mountain Athletic Conference play Thursday at home against Reynolds.
Nominations for the WNC Fall Sports Athlete of the Week are limited to every sport but football (which has its own award) and are due each Tuesday by noon. Readers may nominate an athlete anonymously by sending an e-mail to email@example.com.
