It was another strong year for volleyball in the Blue Water Area and that is reflected on the Michigan Interscholastic Volleyball Coaches Association all-state teams.
Marysville High School senior and Times Herald Player of the Year Alison Bastianelli was a first-team Class B selection, along with Brittany Maxwell of Armada.
“A lot of my success goes to the girls that played with me,” Bastianelli said. “Everyone’s name deserves to be on those awards with me.”
Croswell-Lexington senior Brooke Smith was a second-team Class B selection. Devan Valko of Marysville was on the Class B third team, and her teammate Payton Husson was an honorable mention choice. Rachel LaCavera of Armada also was selected honorable mention.
In Class C, Skye Willer made the third team, and in Class D Calista Chaltron was a second-team selection and her teammates Hannah Armstrong and Monica Freeman each were honorable mention selections.
“They fed off of her leadership and how she was feeling at the time,” Brown City coach Jenna Welke said of Willer. “She was a big part of our success.”
Among those listed, only Valko and Husson of Marysville and Chaltron of Cardinal Mooney will return next season.
Bastianelli is headed to the University of Illinois, Maxwell will play for DePaul University, and Smith will suit up for Grand Valley State University.
