CHEF OF THE WEEK
In sports the term “cookin” is reserved for a player who goes on a scoring spree or gets hot during a game and makes big plays on the offensive end.
This week’s “Chef of the Week” award goes to Muskegon (Muskegon, Mich.) forward Deyonta Davis, a Michigan State signee, for posting a triple-double (16 points, 16 rebounds, 10 blocks) in a 65-63 win over Arthur Hill (Saginaw, Mich.) this past weekend.
POSTER OF THE WEEK
This week’s Poster of the Week winner is Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) center Stephen Zimmerman for destroying a defender at the Tarkanian Classic last week.
Zimmerman made a precise cut to the basket, caught a pass from his teammate and rose over a defender who absolutely should’ve just let him shine.
The defender tried to shield himself from the poster mid-air, but it was much too late; Zimmerman threw down a vicious left-hander that sent the crowd into a state of chaos.
OH NO THEY DIDN’T!
This award is reserved for the player who turned in a mind-boggling performance or play that left the crowd in a state of shock and amazement.
This week’s “Oh No They Didn’t” winner is Montverde (Montverde, Fla.) forward Ben Simmons, an LSU signee, for throwing an alley-oop off the backboard to himself and dunking over a defender… In a game at the City of Palms Classic.
Simmons caught the ball on the left wing, took one drill to the left elbow and pump faked, which sent one defender flying for the block attempt. That’s when Simmons threw the lob off the backboard, caught it over a defender and dunked it with two hands.
You’ve got to see this.
