The Benton Lady Tigers rallied in the second half Friday night, outscoring Woodlawn 24-15 in the crucial third quarter then holding on down the stretch to take a 70-66 victory over the Lady Knights in District 1-4A competition at Benton.
Junior Gabby Jackson scored 25 points and grabbed 14 rebounds and Megan Fream fired in 24 points as Benton improved to 17-8 overall and 3-1 in district.
Amber Cook led Woodlawn (7-7, 2-2) with 26 points, while Haggar Caldwell dropped in 13, and all 12 of Rachel Elzie’s points for the Lady Knights came on four first-half 3-pointers.
Southwood 63, Airline 50: At Airline, the Lady Cowboys darted out to an early lead and held steady to defeat the Lady Vikings in District 1-5A action.
Chelsea Tieuel scored a game-high 22 points and Jaiylan Brown added 12 as Southwood improved to 17-6 overall and remained unbeaten at 4-0 in district play.
Kei McCoy led Airline with 16 points and Tasha Shiflett pumped in 12 as the Lady Vikings fell to 13-10 and dropped their first district game of the season (3-1).
Captain Shreve 50, Byrd 47: At Captain Shreve, the Lady Gators pulled together a big defensive effort to upset the Lady Jackets in District 1-5A play.
Victoria Hart scored a game-high 21 points and Paris Coleman added 18 as Captain Shreve (2-15, 1-2) won for just the second time this season.
Alexis Dean led Byrd with 16 points as it fell to 8-17 (1-2).
Loyola 53, Minden 43: At Loyola, the Lady Flyers held the Lady Tiders’ top scorers in check and remained unbeaten in District 1-4A play with the win.
Amber Smith led all scorers with 18 points and Allyson Ruben added 14 as Loyola improved to 15-9 overall and a perfect 4-0 in district.
Antavia Sterling scored 13 points to lead Minden (12-9, 1-3) but Loyola’s defense did a great job of shutting down the scoring tandem of Ja’Courtney Neloms (eight points) and Tiaga Pugh (nine points).
Mansfield 66, Evangel 42: At Mansfield, Ashlyn Jacobs scored 23 points to lead the Lady Wolverines past the Lady Eagles in District 1-3A play.
Keiona Ross dropped in 12 points as Mansfield improved to 20-6 and 4-1 in district.
Rachel Johnson and Tiara Young scored 16 points each for Evangel (12-12, 2-3).
Arcadia 55, Plain Dealing 40: At Arcadia, the Lady Hornets (18-5, 4-0) went on a 14-1 run in the second period and got a big District 1-1A win over their rival Lady Lions (13-10, 3-1).
Ty Henderson led all scorers with 20 points for Arcadia, while Drauntika Thomas had 13 points to lead Plain Dealing and Teauna Perry added 11 for the Lady Lions.
