A big third period turned things around for the Fond du Lac Cardinals on Sunday.
In the midst of a three-game winless streak and having posted just one win in their last six games, the Cardinals scored three times in the third period against Middleton to post a 4-2 at the Cornerstone Rink in the final game of the Ashwaubenon Tournament.
Middleton had taken a 2-1 advantage late in the second period but Fondy scored twice in the opening 42 seconds of the third period to take the lead and added another insurance goal later in the period.
Alex Graf scored a power-play goal just 17 seconds into the third period to tie the score, while Caylen Dyni’s tally 25 seconds later gave Fond du Lac its first lead of the game.
Michael Wilson, who scored in the second period to tie the game at 1, picked up his second goal of the game with just under five minutes to play to help seal the win.
Bailey Koenigs and Ben Pertl each finished with two assists in the game, while Wilson and Ian Tess-Wanat also picked up helpers.
William Shober stopped 15 shots to earn the win in net for Fond du Lac, which outshot Middleton 31-27 in the game.
