Top-seeded Rockledge will meet second-seeded Titusville for the Class 5A, District 14 Championship after both posted overwhelming victories in Wednesday’s district semifinals.
The schools have played two tight games this season with the home teams winning in each matchup. Titusville prevailed 44-39 on Dec. 5, and the Raiders edged the Terriers 48-47 on Jan. 15.
“We’re excited. We lost to them by one point, different set of circumstances, so we kind of still have that taste in our mouth so we’re going to go out and bring out best ‘A’ game,” said Titusville head coach Bobby Winn.
In the first semifinal, Titusville’s swarming, pressing defense held Merritt Island without a point for roughly the first quarter and a half as the Terriers trounced the Mustangs 54-19.
“I think the main thing we did is we played as a team and we really got our intensity up and worked really hard tonight, said Titusville sophomore Tamara Henshaw, who finished with seven points and led the Terriers defensively.
Shenelle Bailey led all scorers with 16 points, while Aileah Davis chipped in 15 for Titusville.
In the nightcap, Roshaun Wilson made five of Rockledge’s eight 3-point field goals as the Raiders cruised past Satellite 57-21.
“Perimeter shooting for us, when the girls are shooting well it’s one of the best in the county,” said Rockledge head coach Reuben Williams. “I have 3-point shooters that can drop it in all day long if they get open.”
Williams finished with a game-high 15 while teammate Lashaveon Jones finished with 11 points and 8 rebounds.
