The latest LHSAA boys basketball unofficial power rankings released Tuesday give a nearly clear picture of which teams can start playoff preparation.
Tuesday’s District 1-5A contests couldn’t determine a winner between Byrd and Captain Shreve, and that’s the last piece needed to figure out the local playoff picture. The co-champions will play an extra game to decide which team gets the full power point for winning the district and which receives the half point.
Byrd, No. 2 before Tuesday’s win at Parkway, can hold onto that spot if they can win the district.
If Byrd comes in second place in the district, No. 3 Natchitoches Central will jump the Yellow Jackets after the Chiefs wrapped up District 2-5A with a win Tuesday against Ruston.
Shreve, at No. 19 before Tuesday’s win at Airline, could vault itself into a home playoff game should the Gators win District 1-5A.
Huntington, No. 7 in Class 4A and the District 1-4A champion, will be joined by No. 19 Fair Park, No. 21 Minden and No. 31 Loyola.
The Flyers have just a .08 lead over No. 33 Riverdale, who would currently be out of the 32-team bracket.
Bossier, No. 2 in Class 3A, trails No. 1 Richwood by just .11 points. The Bearkats wrapped up the district title and could jump to the No. 1 spot by beating No. 26 Evangel on Tuesday if Richwood loses its finale to Neville on Friday.
North Webster is hanging onto its No. 16 spot and home playoff game by .02 points over No. 17 Port Barre.
In Classs 2A, Lakeview is locked in to a No. 2 seed and has local company with No. 10 Many, No. 16 Homer (has a .15 edge over Rosepine for a home game), No. 21 Calvary and No. 31 North Caddo. The Rebels have finished their season and hold a .27-point lead over No. 33 Lake Arthur.
Arcadia is still expected to be Class 1A’s top seed despite a Tuesday loss at Plain Dealing. Other teams from a stacked District 1-1A include No. 7 Grambling, No. 11 Plain Dealing, No. 19 Ringgold and No. 28 Haynesville.
Florien sits atop Class B as the top seed, and the area is well represented with No. 7 Zwolle, No. 14 Doyline, No. 23 Castor and No. 24 Stanley.
This corner of the state boasts four of the top 10 Class C teams, including No. 5 Pleasant Hill, No. 6 Gibsland-Coleman, No. 7 Summerfield and No. 10 Ebarb.
