Boys basketball: Pleasantville rules the fourth quarter against Rye; more results

Pleasantville overcame a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit to beat visiting Rye 45-44 Tuesday.

Chris Maloney had 20 points, including 13 in the fourth quarter, as the Panthers outscored the Garnets 23-12 in the fourth.

Austin Greto added 16 points, and scored all seven of the Panthers’ points in the first quarter. Pleasantville scored more in the fourth quarter (23) than it did in the other three combined (22).

“It was a tale of one quarter,” Pleasantville coach Chris Welsh said. “That was the game.”

Maloney hit three straight 3s in the fourth to help spark the Panthers’ offense. Pleasantville was also successful with its press down the stretch. George Kirby led the Garnets (5-11) with 12 points.

After a slow start to the season, Pleasantville (6-10) is playing its best basketball, Welsh said. “We’ve got to get more consistent,” he said. “But I do see a team that hasn’t given up on each other.”
