Montgomery 47, Rutgers Prep 45 (OT): Senior forward Justin Kovacevich finished a buzzer-beating put back at the end of the first overtime to lift the Montgomery High School boys basketball team to a 47-45 win on the road over Rutgers Prep on Friday night in Somerset.
Kovacevich finished with 25 points and seven rebounds, as the Cougars improved to 12-0. Rutgers Prep fell to 5-6.
Ridge 63, Phillipsburg 34: Junior guard Derek Lyons recorded a triple double with 14 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists and senior guard Kevin Doolan added 17 points, six rebounds, six assists, and four steals as Ridge improved to 10-2. Padraic Brady added 15 points in the win.
North Brunswick 60, Edison 51: L.J. Williams scored a team-high 21 points, Joe Castellanos netted 13, and Pranay Bhandare added 11 to lead North Brunswick (9-3), which came from behind with a 24-12 fourth quarter. Trayvon Washington led all scorers with 24 points for Edison (6-6).
Spotswood 64, Highland Park 37: Jake Dadika led all scorers with 24 points and freshman center Matt Ciaccio contributed 10 points, 24 rebounds, seven assists, four blocks, and four steals for Spotswood (7-4). Marlon Hart added 11 points for the Chargers. Highland Park (0-11) was led by Noah Pointer’s 11 points.
Metuchen 60, Piscataway Tech 55: Artie Flaherty recorded 17 points and nine rebounds, Thomas Chalker contributed 16 points and nine assists, and Evan Collier added 16 points as well for Metuchen (8-4). The Bulldogs went 12-of-18 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter while Collier went 10-of-10 for the game. Jordan Lackey and Aziz Austin each scored 20 points for Piscataway Tech (1-7).
Carteret 49, J.F. Kennedy 45: Jaquan Robertson scored 14 points and Amir Alford added 13 to pace Carteret (8-5). Brandon Gilder dished out seven assists for the Ramblers. Joe Duffy led J.F. Kennedy (6-5) with 13 points while Chris Frost added 10.
Bishop Ahr 56, Middlesex 44: Tom Weiler scored 16 points and Owen McLeod recorded 12 points, 10 assists, and seven rebounds to pace Bishop Ahr (7-4), which pulled ahead with a 17-8 third quarter. Middlesex fell to 6-5.
Westfield 57, Rahway 52: Dylan Elliott led Westfield with 12 points and Chris Wright added 11 for Westfield (7-5), which held off a Rahway (2-11) surge in the third quarter. Jason Peoples scored 14 points and Edrice Patterson had 13 in the loss for the Indians.
Perth Amboy Tech 49, East Brunswick Tech 47: Jordan Little scored 21 points with 33 rebounds and five blocks and scored the game-winning basket with a dunk to propel Perth Amboy Tech (5-4), which lost point guard Kyrie Byers in the second quarter with a sprained ankle.
Dunellen 64, Wardlaw-Hartridge 44: Nick Petrozelli scored a game-high 23 points and David Johnson chipped in 17 points to lead Dunellen (6-4) to the win. Ishmael Menns tallied 13 points to lead Wardlaw-Hartridge (3-11) in the loss.
