Boys golf roundup: Valders wins Manitowoc County Invite

With the sun finally shining down on Manitowoc County, five area golf teams took part in the County Invite on Saturday at the National Course at Fox Hills in Mishicot with Valders coming away with the crown.

The Vikings finished with a team score of 343 behind a balance team led by Josh Salm’s 13-over 85, good for third overall. Also for Valders, Zach Siikarla, Jordan Torrison and Tyler Miller were all one stroke behind shooting a 14-over 86.

Two Rivers’ Dayne Rusch (11-over 83) was the meet medalist propelling the Raiders to a second-place finish (380).

Taking second overall was Kiel’s Nick Goecks (12-over 84) to help his team place fourth (399).

Parker Mueller (21-over 93) paced Mishicot (third, 395) while Nathan Dietrich (16-over 88) did the same for Reedsville (fifth, 411).

Blue Bomber Invitational

Roncalli took part in the second annual Blue Bomber Invitational which brought together some of the top golf teams in the state to play at the Irish course at Whistling Straits in Kohler.

The special six-player format invitational featured 24 teams in large- and small-school divisions. Two players on each team competed in normal stroke play, with two others on each team playing best-ball “shamble.” Two more players competed in a two-man scramble competition.

Teams added their stroke play, shamble and scramble scores to calculate their final scores.

The Jets finished seventh among small schools with a team score of 376. Winning the among the small schools was Sheboygan Falls (303).

Jake Wagner shot a 35-over 107, 45th overall, to lead Roncalli in stroke play.

Jay M. Hill Memorial Invite

Manitowoc Lincoln took fifth as a team with a team score of 342 at the Royal Scot Golf Course.

The Ships Sasha Oosting tied for second overall with a 5-over 77. The meet medalist was Pulaski’s Owen Nowicki, who shot a 3-over 75.

Winning the event as a team was the Green Bay Preble Green team, which edged second-place Pulaski 324 to 327.
