Pearl River appointed Chris Woolgar as its new girls basketball coach for the 2014-15 season during Tuesday night’s school board meeting, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.
Woolgar (pictured right) was the Pirates’ assistant softball coach last season before taking over for head coach Carisa Gaylardo after she resigned one game into the season. Woolgar, a Pearl River alum, played for the boys basketball team during his tenure with the Pirates, serving as a guard/forward combo player.
Woolgar replaces Daniel Lauture, who coached the team to a 13-7 overall record during his only season with the program. Lauture left the program in late September due to a scheduling conflict with a new job. Lauture alleged that Pearl River athletic director Todd Santabarbara was “unwilling” to work with him in pushing back game times by half an hour or switching times with the junior varsity, despite numerous competing teams saying they were willing to switch their game times when facing Pearl River.
