Caitlin Hoerning’s grand slam broke open the game and led Hortonville to a 9-3 victory over Ashwaubenon in a WIAA Division 1 sectional semifinal softball game Tuesday in Ashwaubenon.
Hoerning connected for her slam in the top of the third inning to give Hortonville a 5-0 lead. Hoerning finished with six RBI and Ally Fox had four hits for the Polar Bears (21-4), who will play Green Bay Preble on Thursday at Appleton East.
Sammi Sullivan struck out five to get the win on the mound for Hortonville.

At Green Bay, the Hornets, who scored twice in the second inning, gave themselves some breathing room with a four-run third in their win over the Lightning.
The Lightning got run-scoring singles by Brittney Furlow in the fourth and sixth innings, but North (14-8) couldn’t bunch enough hits together to cut any further into the deficit.

At Waupaca, the Bulldogs erased an early deficit with a four-run third inning and never looked back.
Alanna Beyer paced New London with three hits, including a triple and three runs scored, while Shelby Sommer was 3-for-4 and picked up the win on the mound. Sommer allowed one run and one walk, while striking out five in the complete-game victory.

At Shawano, Danielle Nennig scored the winning run on Brooke Linzmeier’s single in Wrightstown’s half of the seventh as the Tigers defeated the Panthers. Nennig had reached base on a single.
MaKayla Neinas pitched a five-hitter for Wrightstown.
Laconia 1, Shiocton 0
At Markesan, Sydney Wilcox gave up just two hits but, unfortunately for the Chiefs, they led to the game’s only run.
In the bottom of the first, Anna Wegner led off with a single and was sacrificed to second. With two out, Loryn Strook followed with an RBI single to right center.
Wilcox finished with 10 strikeouts and one walk.
Kari Williamson had Shiocton’s lone hit in the top of the second.
