Harlee Matthews slammed a home run, a double and picked up five RBIs as Captain Shreve rolled over Avoyelles 14-3 on Friday in the Grace Christian Tournament in Alexandria.
Rhiannon Davis and Tyler Cummings posted 3-for-4 efforts for coach Tim Smith, while Jordan Hughes added a double in her two-hit effort. Charlieann O’Brien took the win on the mound, while Laura Lemoine absorbed the loss for Avoyelles (4-6). The Lady Gators (7-7) play Buckeye on Saturday morning and Houma on Saturday afternoon.
Airline 9, Caldwell 5: The Lady Vikings’ Miranda Young broke open a tie game with a 2-run homer in the sixth inning to lift Airline to the win. Young’s blast scored Katie Smith, as the Lady Vikes scored 7 runs in the sixth to give Kayla Ranit the win.
Airline will play Alexandria Senior High at 8 :30 a.m. on Saturday and Menard at noon.
Calvary 9, Ruston 1: The Lady Cavs stayed on a roll with an easy win over Ruston in the Ouachita Parish Tournament in Monroe. Mallory Lalena, Tiffany Williams and Jordan Fielder all had a pair of hits in Calvary’s 12-hit attack. Kenzie Glover and Marissa Reed chipped in with doubles. Ruston was led by Casey Harrelson with a 2-for-3 effort. Sarah Chamberlain ran her record to 5-1 with the win.
Calvary plays Oak Grove at 2:30 p.m. and Caldwell at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Lakeside 7, Loyola 5: Despite pounding out 14 hits, the Lady Flyers lost to Lakeside in the Lakeside Tournament. Kathryn Scrivener had three hits, while Claire Riddick, Meredith Waltman and Sarah McDonald pounded out a pair of hits each for Loyola.
Haughton 7, West Monroe 4: At Monroe, the Lady Bucs rebounded from Thursday’s loss to Byrd with a big win in the Ouachita Tournament. Jessica Blank had three hits and Kirsten Martin two as Haughton pounded out 11 hits in the victory. Anna Dies picked up the win with help from Haley Miller.
Cedar Creek 7, Northwood 0: The Falcons were limited to just two hits by Caley Pyles in the non-district contest at the Ouachita Parish Tournament.
Baseball
Benton 9, Byrd 1: The Tigers’ Jordan Shaffer pitched a 2-hitter and Cameron Horton slammed a homerun to lift Benton past Byrd on Friday night in the Jason Bland Memorial Tournament.
Byrd will play again at 10 a.m. Saturday at Airline against Sulphur, while Benton plays Parkway at Parkway at 3 p.m.
Airline 3, Sulphur 0: Andrew Lowe limited Sulphur to three hits in 5-2/3 innings to give the Vikings the win on Friday in the Jason Bland Memorial Tournament. Chase Rivers went 2-for-3 at the plate for Airline. The Vikes play Ouachita Christian at 1:30 and Neville at 4:15 on Saturday.
