Jesse McWright fired in a game-high 23 points to lead four players in double figures as the Captain Shreve Gators scored early and often to knock off their crosstown rival Byrd Yellow Jackets 100-79 Friday night in a District 1-5A showdown at Captain Shreve.
Toronco Loston scored 21 points in the Gator scoring barrage, Tyrone Earls dropped in 18 and Eric Mosley added 12 as Captain Shreve improved to 10-8 overall and 2-1 in district play. Amazingly, the Gators had only one 3-pointer in the entire game.
Byrd, ranked second in the Class 5A state power rankings coming into the contest, got 21 points from top scorer Chad Lott as it fell to 20-6 overall and 2-1. Montrey Thomas had 20 points and Kory Ashley added 13 for the Jackets.
Minden 86, Loyola 82: At Loyola, CJ Elkins scored 41 points as the Crimson Tide pulled out a dramatic District 1-4A road victory over the Flyers.
Neither team held more than a five-point cushion throughout the game as each team dialed up the intensity level. Kevin Hamilton and Lewis Moore each scored 14 points for Minden as it improved to 15-6 overall and 3-1 in district play.
Drekaleus Williams led Loyola (15-8, 2-2) with 21 points, while Eldrick English dropped in 20, and Dominique Kennedy and Logan Robertson added 18 each for the Flyers.
Southwood 70, Airline 60: At Airline, the Cowboys had a little more trouble than expected but eventually came away with the District 1-5A win over the Vikings.
Detarrius Hubbard scored 17 points to lead all scorers as Southwood improved to 14-8 and 3-0 in district. Terion Bell added 15 points and Keith Hunter had 10 for the Cowboys.
Robby Dooley led Airline (6-16, 0-3) with 12 points and Austin Brannon added 11 for the Vikings.
Bossier 60, Green Oaks 40: At Green Oaks, the Bearkats sprinted out to a 14-3 lead after one period and cruised to the District 1-3A road win over the Giants.
Devonte Hall scored a game-high 18 points, Darius Leary fired in 14 and Kentrell Hardy added 13 as Bossier improved to 16-7 overall and a perfect 3-0 in district competition.
Jonathan Bell led Green Oaks (8-13, 1-2) with 16 points and Veonta Keith had 12 for the Giants in the loss.
North Webster 77, BTW 70: At BTW, the Knights placed four players in double figures to offset another big game by the Lions’ Karim El-Amin and pick up the District 1-3A road win.
Willie Lee scored 18 points, Lyntravious Gipson and Montavious Smith each had 17, and Dontavious Smith added 16 as North Webster improved to 17-7 overall and 3-0 in district play.
El-Amin fired in a game-high 34 points, including five 3-pointers, while teammates Dimitri Releford scored 13 and Bobdrick Thomas had 12 as BTW fell to 6-10 and 0-3.
Calvary 61, Lakeside 58: At Calvary, Shun Brown led four players in double figures with 17 points as the Cavaliers edged the Warriors for the District 1-2A victory.
Garrett Kochkian scored 14 points, Shea Patterson had 11, and Rondarious Williams added 10 as Calvary improved to 7-8 overall and 2-2 in district play.
Maurice Moore led all scorers with 26 points for Lakeside (4-16, 1-3).
