Compton-based rapper YG is having the darnedest time with this particular question.
No, it’s not about his top five all-time rapper’s list or his favorite vacation spot; YG’s stumped on which sport he was more dominant at back in his heyday.
“Man that’s a tough one right there,” YG said. “I was nice at all of ’em.”
I caught up with YG to chop-it-up about everything from his modesty, or lack thereof about his athletic ability to the success of his new album to his secret skateboarding prowess.
Jason Jordan: I know you’re from L.A.; coming up did you play sports?
YG: Oh yeah; I played basketball, football and I ran track.
JJ: Which was your best sport?
YG: (Laughs) Ooh man; I was nice at all of ’em! For real. I can’t name just one.
JJ: Give me your shining moment?
YG: Probably in track; I broke a record in the long jump.
JJ: Who’s your favorite pro team?
YG: The Chicago Bulls and in football I’m a Niners fan.
JJ: Let’s go random; what do yellow traffic lights mean to you?
YG: Slow down.
JJ: What’s your biggest pet peeve?
YG: People that always ask for stuff; they want a handout all the time. I can’t stand that.
JJ: Pre-fame, what was your worst job?
YG: Oh man I was working at Fuddrucker’s in the back washing the dishes and cleaning the tables. I hated it!
JJ: What competition based reality show would you absolutely win?
YG: Well, I can’t mess with Fear Factor eating all that weird stuff. Probably Survivor because that’s what I am.
JJ: What’s your favorite app?
JJ: What random game are you king of?
JJ: Let’s say hypothetically you’ve found yourself in the Witness Protection Program; what’s your cover name?
YG: Oh no, I’d never be in that. That’s not my type of party. Can’t relate to that one my man.
JJ: What fast food restaurant has the best burgers?
YG: Five Guys.
JJ: What movie absolutely deserves a sequel?
YG: Probably Boyz N The Hood, Menace II Society or Training Day.
JJ: What’s your best guess on O Dog (Menace II Society); what’s he up to in the sequel?
YG: He’s probably locked up. Maybe he’s about to get out.
JJ: Talk or text?
YG: Definitely text.
JJ: Do you hoard messages or clear out your inbox?
YG: I definitely keep them.
JJ: What song makes YG have to get up and get his two-step on?
YG: (Laughs) Wow, I’ve got a lot of those. Probably Next Episode by Dr. Dre.
JJ: Let’s hop in the DeLorean time machine (Back to the Future), what time period do you want to drop in on?
YG: I’d have to say the 1990s.
JJ: Would you rather have the power to be invisible or the power to read minds?
YG: (Laughs) Ooh that’s a good one; I’ll say the power to read minds. That’s like being invisible in a way. You can get really rich that way.
JJ: Blindfolded can you tell the difference between Pepsi and Coke?
YG: Of course. I think Pepsi is sweeter.
JJ: What’s your secret talent?
YG: I know how to ride skateboards and all of that type of stuff.
JJ: What sitcom intro song do you know every word to?
YG: Man! I forgot all of those bro. Wait… (Begins singing) “I pulled up to a house about seven or eight… I was finally there; could sit at my throne as the Prince of Bel-Air.”
JJ: What’s on your perfect pizza?
YG: Pepperoni and sausage with Ranch and crushed peppers on the side.
JJ: Your album My Krazy Life debuted at No. 1 so congrats on that; talk about what fans can expect from you this summer.
YG: Appreciate that my boy! Fans can expect to turn-up this summer. They can expect more shows, more music and more of everything. We’re definitely turning-up this summer.
