Central Cabarrus comeback vs Sun Valley falls just short

By

CONCORD, N.C. — In the first home game of the girls hoops season, Central Cabarrus High School fell just short of defeating Sun Valley High School, losing 62-59.

The Lady Spartans and Lady Vikings went back-and-forth throughout the contest, with Sun Valley clinging tightly to a six-point halftime lead. Sun Valley’s Hannah Adamczyk was on fire from the field, scoring 25 points in the victory.

As the second half began, Sun Valley outscored Central by three points for the third-straight quarter, taking a 45-36 lead into the fourth. The Lady Vikings got it clicking offensively, but were unable to complete the comeback, falling just short as the buzzer sounded. Mahley Holit was impressive again, scoring 29 in the loss. Central’s Sophia McFarlane shined in the paint, scoring 16 while pulling in 16 rebounds to give her team a shot at the win.

Central Cabarrus returns to the hardwood Friday when they visit rival Hickory Ridge. Sun Valley’s next game will be Thursday at West Stanly.
