CHILLICOTHE – The Chillicothe Cavaliers girls tennis team swept Miami Trace in the singles matches in a 3-2 win Thursday.
The Cavaliers’ Bekah Ray earned a hard-fought 7-6, 6-1 win against the Panthers’ Abbie Noble. Jera Copley downed Bethany Reiterman 7-5, 6-2. Chillicothe’s Brittany Harper closed out the win with a 6-2, 6-3 victory against Haylee Higgins.
The Panthers had their success in the doubles. Caroline Hughes and Cassie Showalter beat Chillicothe’s Hannah Arth and Carly McCloy 6-3, 6-3 and Miami Trace’s Macy Detty and Kayla Johnston outlasted Amiel Shearer and Madeline Digges 7-6, 4-6, 6-2.
The win improves Chillicothe to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in the South Central Ohio League.
The Cavs next match is Monday when they host Olentangy Liberty at 4:30 p.m. at Ohio University-Chillicothe.
