Clearwater Central Catholic's Smith named Player of Week

Clearwater, FL – The WTSP.com/HSS High School Football Player of the Week is Jeff Smith, quarterback for Clearwater Central Catholic High School.

Friday night, the senior rushed for 223 yards, scored three touchdowns and passed for 115 yards, leading the Marauders in a come-from-behind 41-27 victory at Jesuit.

Last year, Smith, a Boston College commit, was platooning at quarterback with Blake Gomez, before eventually finishing the year as the full-time starter. But this season, the starting job belongs only to Smith.

FIRST GAME: Smith leads Marauders to season-opening win

“Being the starting quarterback from day one … really changed a lot. I got more comfortable with my team as a starting quarterback, and it just went on from there in trying to start a new journey to get back to the state championship,” he said.

Head coach John Davis raves about his quarterback, calling him one of the top quarterbacks in the bay area.

This week the Marauders (3-0) have their bye week, giving them an extra week to prepare for their game in Ocala against Trinity Catholic.
