Aiden Olmsted scored a hat trick to lead the Corning boys lacrosse team to a 10-5 victory over Ithaca in Section 4 action Wednesday night at Bredbenner Field.
Spencer Passmore and Devin Grimaldi added two goals apiece for the Hawks (6-3), who outscored Ithaca 5-1 in the third quarter to pull away from the Little Red (4-6). The score was tied at 3 at halftime.
Goalie Nick Nehring made seven saves in the win. Ithaca stats were unavailable.
The Little Red travels to Union-Endicott next Wednesday for a 7 p.m. faceoff.
Track & field
Union Springs tri-meet: On Wednesday at Union Springs, the host Wolves boys’ team topped both Whitney Point (105-20) and Dryden (77-53). Dryden beat WP, 78-38.
Union Springs athletes won eight of the 16 events, including two of the three relays. Nick Muldoon and Tor Wildenstein were double-winners for the Purple Lions, Muldoon winning the 110-meter and 400 hurdles and Wildenstein taking the long and triple jumps.
On the girls’ side, Union Springs topped both Dryden (66-48) and WP (72-39), while Dryden edged the Golden Eagles (54-39). Shaina Sullivan was a triple winner for Dryden, winning the 100 hurdles along with the triple and high jumps.
Ithaca 7, Maine-Endwell 0: On Wednesday at Ithaca, Justin Milner swept Freddy Purpora, 6-0, 6-0, at first singles as the undefeated Little Red handed the Spartans their first loss of the season.
All seven matches were won by Ithaca (6-0) in straight sets. M-E dropped to 3-1.
Lansing 7, Newark Valley 0: On Wednesday at Lansing, the Bobcats improved to 5-0 by defeating the Cardinals (0-4) as senior Andy Parkes remained undefeated with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Heidi Inderweis.
