Sam Crusha, who helped Corning win Section 4 championships in boys lacrosse and football this year, will play college lacrosse at Division II Mercyhurst University.
Crusha was set to sign a National Letter of Intent to play for the Lakers during a ceremony Monday afternoon at the Corning-Painted Post High School cafeteria. Mercyhurst is in Erie, Pa.
“I looked at a wide variety of schools and the minute I stepped on campus at Mercyhurst, I knew that’s where I wanted to play,” Crusha said in a press release.
He is a three-year varsity starter at midfield for the Hawks, who ended Ithaca’s streak of five straight Section 4 Class A titles last season. Crusha was a first-team Section 4 all-star as a freshman and sophomore.
Crusha has been a two-year member of the Nike Upstate Rising all-star team and was part of the Brine National All-American academy.
Mercyhurst had a 12-4 record last season and advanced to the Division II national quarterfinals, where the Lakers lost, 11-9, to the University of Tampa.
This fall he helped Corning win the Section 4 Class AA title in football with a 16-0 victory over defending champion Elmira. He led Corning with 919 yards and 16 touchdowns on 133 carries. He also played outside linebacker.
Crusha plans to major in criminal justice, with law enforcement his focus. He is the son of Chuck and Lisa Crusha of Corning.
