BRIDGEWATER Senior Senior – Matt Kaiterus’ 21-yard touchdown rush in the fourth quarter proved to be decisive score Friday night as the Bridgewater-Raritan High School football team defeated North Hunterdon 17-10 at Basilone Field.
With the win, the Panthers (5-3) move in position to host an NJSIAA North 2 Group V playoff game if Hunterdon Central defeats Westfield next week.
Steve LaMorte added a touchdown in the victory.
Robert Marron had a 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown for the Lions (4-4).
Dunellen 45, South River 7: Robert Young finished with 15 carries, 121 yards and three touchdowns to lead Dunellen to its seventh straight victory. Nassan Anderson carried eight times for 90 yards with two touchdown, while David Johnson had 12 carries for 61 yards and scored once for the Destroyers (7-1). Nick Lepore scored on a two-yard keeper for South River (2-6).
Hunterdon Central 21, Immaculata: 7: Henry Hawkins carried 36 times for 228 yards and one touchdown to power Hunterdon Central to its first victory over Immaculata after dropping the previous seven meetings. Malcolm Butts and Malcolm Butts each had interceptions for the Red Devils (3-5). John Phelan threw and eight-yard touchdown pass to Riley O’Neil for the Spartans (2-6).
Delaware Valley 42, Hillside 12: Corey Shedlock ran the ball 17 times for 206 yards and three scores, and the Terriers ran for a total of 278 yards in the win. All of Shedlock’s scores came in first quarter, and the Terriers carried a 35-6 lead into halftime. Joe Donnelly carried the ball six times for 22 yards and a touchdown, and Jesse Neighbor rushed five times for 50 yards for the Terriers.
Bernards 45, Somerville 28: Tyler Baum threw a 45-yard pass to Matt Tantleff for a Bernards touchdown in the first quarter. A 27-yard rushing touchdown from Caaqhai Mann put Somerville (0-8) up on the scoreboard in the first quarter. After entering halftime up 17-14, the Mountaineers (7-0) put up 28 points in the third quarter. Marc Murphy and Sebastian Sanchez both scored two rushing touchdowns each for the Mountaineers in the third.
Westfield 42, Watchung Hills 20: Jack Curry ran 27 times for 208 yards and four touchdowns to lead Westfield (5-2), who held a 21-14 advantage at halftime. Zach Kelly completed 14 passes for 160 yards and one touchdown. Watchung Hills drops to 2-6 with the loss.
Dayton 22, Manville 0: Dayton (2-6) climbed to a 15-0 halftime lead, scoring seven points in the third quarter to round out the scoring. Manville drops to 0-8 with the loss.
Perth Amboy 12, South Plainfield 10: Shaquan Fullwood scored a touchdown off a fumble recovery in the third quarter, to put Perth Amboy up 6-0. Tristian Rock finished the game off for the Panthers (1-7) in the fourth quarter, scoring off a QB sneak.
Bound Brook 41, Brearley 41: Aaron Saavedra rushed 11 times for 212 yards and one touchdown, and Danny Leinbach completed eight passes for 112 yards and two touchdowns for Bound Brook (4-3-1). The game went into a third overtime, where Saavedra scored his lone touchdown. Brearly (5-2-1) answered back with an 11-yard run by David Eskin, ending the game in a tie.
Ridge 38, Union 34: Ridge moves to 3-5 on the season with the victory. Union drops to 2-6 with the loss.
