DAMASCUS, Md. (WUSA 9) — Damascus football coach Eric Wallich said the team is preparing well for the upcoming season.
“We hope to make it to the playoffs and championship,” Wallich said.
He said the team started practicing yesterday but has been conditioning and playing seven on seven with other teams throughout the summer.
“We want Damascus to be the best team it can be,” Wallich said.
The team, he said, does not focus on opponents. Wallich said the Hornets focus on being the best.
“It doesn’t matter who we’re playing,” Wallich said. “We have to keep a competitive mindset.”
He said Damascus’ biggest rival is Seneca Valley. Wallich said the two teams have a lot of history and the rival game brings out a lot of passion from fans and alumni.
“The rivalry brings out the best in each team,” Wallich said.
Damascus’ first game is against Albert Einstein at 6:30 p.m., Sept. 5.
