WHEAT RIDGE – The Wheat Ridge softball team opened up their 2014 season with a 3-2 comeback win over the Chaparral Wolverines on Tuesday. The 4A defending champions were trailing 2-1 entering the bottom of the 7th, but with one out Farmers’ junior power hitter Ann Marie Torres hit a 2-run walk-off home run to win it.

The Wolverines hit a solo shot in the top of the 4th inning to give Chaparral the go-ahead run. There were some very impressive defensive plays on the diamond from both sides, which made it tough for either team to score after that, until the 7th inning.

Wheat Ridge opens up the 2014 season 1-0 and will travel to play Chatfield on Thursday the 21st at 4 p.m. and Chaparral, will host Arvada West on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
