Two defending state champions from Western North Carolina were at home for their season openers Monday.

Blake Hawkins dished out 17 assists and made four digs. Micayla Bedoian swatted eight kills.
Brevard (0-1) was led by Ashley McBee (10 kills, 21 assists, 11 digs and four aces), Kjersti Anderson (10 kills, 16 digs) and Mac McNiel (six kills, 19 assists and seven digs).
Conner Cowan got the Rams (1-0-0) on the board 12 minutes and 40 seconds into Monday’s soccer game. James Mauney had the assist.
