HARMONY – Alec Burak kicked three field goals and Eau Gallie’s defense pressured Harmony quarterback Dalton Jones all night in a 16-0 season-ending victory. Eau Gallie goes out on a two-game winning streak.
Quentin Cowan made two stops late in the second quarter to preserve Eau Gallie’s shutout.
He then stopped a Harmony pass short on third down to set up Burak’s first field goal, a 21-yarder with 7:00 left in the third quarter that broke a scoreless tie.
Eau Gallie’s Bryce Walker then recovered a disputed Harmony lateral and returned it to the Harmony 19. A personal foul at the end of the play put the Commodores at the Harmony 9. Three Devan Lormand runs, capped by a 1-yard touchdown, made it 10-0.
Burak added field goals of 37 and 25 yards in the fourth quarter, and Eau Gallie senior Tommy Madden picked off Harmony’s last pass of the season.
Tim Price ran for 121 yards in his last Eau Gallie game.
KEY PERFORMER: The Eau Gallie defense. Linebacker Quentin Cowan. He made eight tackles. Linebacker Austin Schubert was in Dalton Jones’ face all night, getting half a sack and hurrying two other passes. Madden ended up with six tackles, a pass breakup and an interception.
THEY SAID IT: “We were keying on outside guys, maintaining the outside, and making sure the linebackers could make the tackle,” Eau Gallie linebacker Quentin Cowan said. “There were a bunch of fourth-down plays: One was a pass play that I stopped. The other one, the quarterback came out and I stopped him.”
“We knew they were going to do a lot of reverses, so we were prepared for it.” Eau Gallie linebacker Tommy Madden said. “I’ve been waiting all year to get my pick. I had two last year, and none this year. It took me until the last minute, but I loved it. I wanted to score, but it was all good.”
WHAT’S NEXT: Eau Gallie must replace 15 seniors. Several top juniors remain on defense. This is the second consecutive season Eau Gallie finished .500 or better.
RECORDS: Eau Gallie 5-5, Harmony 3-7.
