Dennis Smith vs. Seventh Woods in Part II fell short of its billing

By

It’s always a tall order for the sequel to live up to the original; that proved to be true in Monday’s battle of elite point guards at the Chick-fil-A Classic in Columbia, S.C.: Trinity Christian School’s (Fayetteville, N.C.) Dennis Smith Jr. vs. Hammond’s (Columbia, S.C.) Seventh Woods.

Woods’ Skyhawks got the, 64-54, win; mostly due to his teammate Xavier McDaniel Jr., who pumped in 21 points.
Woods went 3 of 12 from the field for 11 points, four rebounds and three assists. Smith put up 21 points on 8 of 19 shooing, five rebounds and three assists in the loss.

A stark contrast from their first meeting a year ago in the High School OT Holiday Invitational where Woods dropped 42 points and Smith posted 22 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists in the win.

This time, the anticipation was greater than the output.

Both players struggled from the field, both threw down unreal dunks and both missed posterizing dunks that would’ve undoubtedly put them on the Sportscenter Top 10, where they’ve both been featured in the past.

In the end, when people reference the classic Dennis Smith Jr.-Seventh Woods matchup they’ll still be talking about this:
